What This Study Tells Us
🌿 Understanding Midwifery: Strengthening Awareness, Empowering Care
Midwives play a vital role across the maternity journey—from pregnancy education and preparation for birth to supporting women through physiological childbirth and providing personalised maternity care.
Our findings highlight a positive trend: public awareness of midwifery in the UAE is growing, but there is still more to understand. In particular, awareness of midwives’ professional autonomy, scope of practice, and their role in providing independent maternity care remains limited.
Bridging this knowledge gap is important for strengthening trust in midwifery services and supporting the development of midwifery-led models of care within the UAE.
Greater public understanding, combined with workforce development, education, and appropriate service planning, can help women and families make informed choices and access the right care at the right time.
Recognising midwives means recognising their contribution to safer, informed, woman-centred maternity care—and to the future of maternity services in the UAE. 🇦🇪
The Emirates Nursing Association looks forward to welcoming the global midwifery community to Abu Dhabi in 2029, where delegates from around the world will come together to exchange knowledge, inspire innovation, strengthen professional partnerships, and shape the future of midwifery in support of healthier women, newborns, families, and communities worldwide.
