Introduction

The Society of Emirates Nursing Informatics is the national platform for nursing professionals striving to promote integration of nursing science, computer science, and information science to enhance healthcare delivery in the UAE. As a specialized practice area within modern healthcare, nursing informatics plays a crucial role in managing and communicating data, information, knowledge, and wisdom essential to nursing practice. Aligned with the mandates of the National Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery (2022 – 2026), our society is dedicated to advancing professional development, fostering networking opportunities, and advocating for best practices. We are committed to promoting informatics research and establishing standards and guidelines for the ethical and effective use of technology in nursing. Our multidisciplinary membership, comprised of nursing informatics professionals, technology experts, and healthcare administrators, collaborates to bridge the gap between clinical practice and technology solutions. Through optimized workflows and enhanced healthcare outcomes, we aim to elevate patient care across the Emirates, fulfilling critical community health needs while fostering career advancement in nursing informatics.

Mission

Establish nursing informatics as a specialized field that bridges nursing practice, healthcare technology, and data management while actively empower nurses with essential competencies and tools to harness technology and data effectively, thereby enhancing patient care and improving healthcare outcomes.

Objectives

  1. Connect nursing informatics professionals across the UAE with interdisciplinary informatics professionals at national, regional, and international levels.

  2. Collaborate with healthcare stakeholders, policymakers, and regulatory bodies to influence policies that promote nursing informatics specialization as well as the adoption, integration, and responsible use of digital health technologies in nursing practice and healthcare delivery.

  3. Promote the use of digital technologies for health and informed decision-making as well as enhancement of nursing practice, patient outcomes, and healthcare delivery.

  4. Support safe and ethical research and development in digital health and adherence to ethical standards in nursing practice, particularly regarding patient confidentiality, data security, and professional integrity.

  5. Foster an enabling ecosystem for innovative nursing practice. 

Scope of Practice

  1. Digital Health: Engage in various digital health initiatives to leverage technology effectively, thereby enhancing healthcare delivery, improving patient outcomes, and streamlining clinical workflows.

  2. Education and Professional Development: Develop and promote educational programs, workshops, competency framework and certifications that serves professional advancement and recognition of nursing informatics professionals. Also, conduct educational programs to equip other nurses with the necessary skills and knowledge in informatics field.

  3. Standards and Best Practices: Establish and promote standards, guidelines, and best practices in nursing informatics to ensure consistency and quality in the use of technology in healthcare settings. Also, collaborate with national and international organizations to contribute to the development of standards for health information technology.

  4. Advocacy and Policy Development: Advocate for the recognition of nursing informatics as a specialized field within nursing practice and its integration into healthcare policies and practices.

  5. Collaboration and Networking: Collaborate with national, regional and international bodies to achieve the society objectives such as International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA), Emirates Health Informatics Society (EHIS),HIMSS etc. Also, provide networking opportunities for nursing informatics professionals to exchange ideas, share experiences, and foster innovation in informatics.

  6. Public and Community Engagement: Educate the public, patients, and communities about the role of nursing informatics in healthcare delivery and patient safety.

  7. Research and Evidence-Based Practice: Support and conduct research that explores the impact of informatics on nursing practice, patient outcomes, and healthcare delivery. Also, promote evidence-based practice by disseminating research findings and encouraging nurses to integrate research into their informatics initiatives.

Strategic Plan

  1. Develop and conduct professional development programs targeting clinical nurse informatics.

  2. Establish annual nursing informatics conference as national platform for the voice and recognition of nursing informatics contributions to health sector.

  3. Promote best practices and international guidelines related to digital transformation and technology development in nursing practices.

Joining Criteria

  • Possession of a nursing degree (RN, BSN, MSN, or higher) or a related healthcare degree.

  • Experience in nursing practice, particularly in roles involving health information technology or informatics.

  • Interest and Commitment to Nursing Informatics:

  • Demonstrated interest in nursing informatics through previous work, education, or professional activities.

  • Commitment to advancing the integration of technology in nursing practice to improve patient care and outcomes.

  • Professional Certification (preferable) :

  • Possession of certifications relevant to nursing informatics (e.g., ANCC Informatics Nursing Certification, CPHIMS certification).
