Introduction

ENA-Diabetes Educators Society-DES (Adult & Pediatric) is dedicated to enhancing diabetes education, empowering healthcare professionals, and improving patient outcomes. Our mission is to support diabetes educators through continuous training, research, and advocacy, ensuring the highest standards of person-centered diabetes care. Through structured education programs, community outreach, and professional development initiatives, we equip healthcare providers with the latest advancements in diabetes management. Additionally, we foster collaboration by establishing networks and partnerships with healthcare organizations to enhance diabetes care delivery and promote a multidisciplinary approach to patient support across the UAE.

Vision

To Optimize the health and quality of life for individuals living with or affected by diabetes through diabetes management education and support initiatives.

Mission

To support and empower diabetes educators to advocate for best practice and individualized person-centered diabetes care and education through continues training and research according to the scope of practice.

Objectives

1- Professional Excellence: Maintain a high level of competency among diabetes educators through continuous professional development.


2- Patient Empowerment: Equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective diabetes self-management.


3- Community Awareness: Increase public understanding of diabetes prevention and management through targeted educational initiatives.


4- Research Contribution: Advance the field of diabetes education by supporting and disseminating research findings.


4- Policy Influence: Advocate for health policies that prioritize and improve diabetes education and care services.


5- Collaboration: Establishing networks and partnerships with other healthcare organizations to enhance diabetes care delivery and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.

Scope of Practice


1- Professional Development: Offering continuous training and certification programs to ensure educators are equipped with the latest evidence-based practices in diabetes management.


2- Patient Education: Developing and implementing comprehensive educational materials and sessions to assist individuals in effective self-management of diabetes.


3- Community Engagement: Conducting outreach programs to raise awareness about diabetes prevention, early detection, and management strategies among diverse populations.


4- Research and Innovation: Promoting and participating in research initiatives aimed at advancing diabetes education methodologies and improving patient outcomes.


5- Establishing networks and partnerships: With other healthcare organizations to enhance diabetes care delivery and promote interdisciplinary collaborate

Joining Criteria

Selection Criteria for Members:


✔ Active membership in the Emirates Nursing Association (ENA).

✔ Recognized qualification in diabetes education, such as a postgraduate diploma, certification, or advanced training in diabetes education.

✔ Currently practicing in the field of diabetes education, with a minimum of one year of experience in patient education, clinical practice, or diabetes-related research.

✔ Demonstrated expertise in diabetes self-management education and support (DSME/S) for pediatric, adult, or antenatal populations.

✔ Proficiency in diabetes technology and treatment modalities, including insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), and other digital health tools.

✔ Commitment to professional development, ongoing education, and contribution to diabetes awareness initiatives.

✔ Dedication to ethical standards and evidence-based practice in diabetes education and patient care.
